Columbia and Mexico went to war twice today, and the first game was an absolute classic. Mexico's iltrifecta erupted for 50 points and 17 assists — a massive double-double — but it wasn't enough. Columbia's EthePG answered with a double-double of his own: 14 points and a jaw-dropping 38 assists to orchestrate a 116-115 thriller. One point. That's all that separated these two Group A heavyweights. In the rematch, Mexico flipped the script, winning 106-92 behind trustnen's 42-point showing, with Paint-defender hauling in 14 rebounds to control the glass. Split series, bragging rights still up for grabs.
The individual performance of the day — maybe the week — belongs to Canada's Flo The Don, who dropped a staggering 57 points in a 96-94 loss to Columbia. Fifty. Seven. Points. In a losing effort. EthePG notched yet another double-double (11 points, 34 assists) to pace Columbia to the win, making it a clean sweep of Canada on the day — Columbia also took a 88-69 decision in their earlier meeting, with EthePG posting 31 points and 20 assists for another double-double. Three double-doubles in one day from the same player is a special kind of ridiculous.
Cuba's precisionkili was the other scoring force to reckon with, putting up 42 points and 10 assists — a double-double — to lead Cuba past Bahamas 82-77. Meanwhile, China swept a home-and-away with USA, winning 102-98 and 93-81. USA's BoyzdaTv logged a double-double (29 points, 19 assists) in the first loss but couldn't get USA over the hump. China snaps a 3-game skid and looks dangerous. Over in the Argentina-South Sudan series, Voids Island was everywhere for Argentina — 37 points and 9 assists in a blowout win, then 31 points and 7 assists in a narrow 77-73 loss to South Sudan. Split series for both sides.
A quick note on the Belgium-Jamaica situation: Belgium won Game 1 on the scoreboard 91-79, but Game 2 — which Jamaica led 79-74 — was awarded to Jamaica by forfeit due to a rule violation by Belgium. So Jamaica takes the series win despite Belgium's IIIIGloc dishing 14 assists in the forfeited game. Elsewhere, Bahamas split with Afghanistan — dropping the opener 91-65 before grinding out a 66-64 nail-biter in Game 2. Diffrrent went for 31 points and 13 assists to lead Afghanistan to the close win. Argentina also knocked off Jamaica 80-67, with Voids Island scoring 33 and TooToxicToni handing out 12 assists. Busy day in the UHL.
